(Note: The small paragraphs are there because this was gonna be a Twitter-rant…it got too big, so I decided to make it a full-on blog entry.)
I feel like such a hypocrite when my inner prude kicks in…oy.
What’s driving this rant? I’m on TikTok the other day, and I see an advid from somebody in the smut biz, caption raging about not being able to post content there, with it always getting busted and removed. And I find myself immediately fucking angry at the person…
TikTok. Where I’m concerned, it’s an exercise in “rights” versus “morals”…”can” we post there versus SHOULD we…
Almost 30% of TikTok’s audience is under-aged. T-H-I-R-T-Y. That means, when you post smut there, it has a 1-in-3 chance of getting to a SEVEN-YEAR-OLD. :/ And yes, kids that young use the site…
CAN we (adult entertainers) post there? It’d be an infringement of our 1st Amendment rights for us not to be able to, correct? But for me, it all comes down to SHOULD we post there…with such a large child (CHILD) audience, do we HAVE to post there?
Believe you me, I understand that I’m coming across like a goddamn Jehovah’s Witless…excuse me, “Witness”, right now and I’m angry at me for it…but I’ve always felt that our content has no place for the under 18 crowd…which is 30% (THIRTY PERCENT) of TikTok. :/
Every day, you see adult entertainers ranting about not being able to post here, there, and everywhere…seems every day I’m seeing folks bitching about being removed from Instagram, Facebook, etc…gotta say, I actually understand why we’re removed…
Our content is NOT for kids. :/
Pretty self-explanatory, really. We keep going on about “I have a RIGHT to post there…”, and yah, maybe we do, but I also feel that sites have a right to recognize their audience and what is proper content to be reaching them…
“Can” we post there versus moralistically “Should” we post there? My own personal thought is that Little Johnny can find out about the fun and pleasure of bondage once he gets past 18. I’m not an adult educator…kids don’t need to see my stuff; I don’t WANT kids seeing my stuff. 1-in-3 is just too great the odds to be risking a site’s child protection abilities, if they even have them. :/
Aren’t there enough social sites out there that we need to extend our reach, even unintentionally, to children?
I can’t believe that as a gamer who’s seen Senators rip up gaming and use this battlecry, I’m about to end with it…but if you think of using TikTok for smut website awareness…
Think about the children.
Rant over. Feel free to criticize or hate on me…but at least have the fortitude to be *constructive* about it. There’s a conversation to be had in all of this…
