So. Last night, before bed, I was bored and needed a project…Resident Evil 4 for the PC got nominated. 🙂
Background: Resident Evil 4 is a game for the PC that got released on or around 2005 by a gaming company named Ubisoft…and they did a disgusting job doing so. :/ The game had already been out on Playstation 2 and Game Cube, but for the release to us PC gamers, Ubisoft took the easy road out, and just made it so the PS2 version played on personal computers (a process henceforth referred to as “porting”). Where that was a fail was they used the PS2’s HORRIDLY low-res cutscenes, and didn’t even bother to make proper button prompts for the controller most of us use when PC gaming, the XBOX 360 controller.
It short, it’s a disastrous porting of the game to PC.
Fixing it wasn’t TOO small an order…had to download (from several different sources) proper in-game button prompts, HD cutscenes (and a codec that would allow the game to play them)…and in the process avoid all the put-a-virus-on-your-computer-assholes that recognized a PC gamer’s want to fix this nonsense as a chance to spread their pain and general disliking of life…no lean task, and all done in my PJ’s at 11 pm at night.
In short, I rock. 🙂
Well, I’m a good assembler, anyway…all I did was go all hunter-gatherer for the proper parts (Google was amazing for that), utilized my mah mad skillz in sniffing out trojan-inflictors, and just put the pieces in their proper places. And yes, to my fellow gamers who’re screaming at me that there’s a proper, fully HD port now on Steam released for this game, yah, I know…but my current rig can’t play it. 😛 They HD’ed a ten-year-old game so properly into the now that my of-the-day-it-was-released rig can’t play it…that’s how much love there is for this game; they breathed life into a TEN YEAR OLD GAME. RE4 is DEFINITELY one of the classics…if you’re a gamer, check it out on PC (HD version, downloadable from Steam for about $20), or if you can get yourself one, get it on the Game Cube…retro-classic in the finest order. I wouldn’t go to all this trouble for just any game…RE4 is DEFINITELY worth the headaches.
And now…I’m gonna treat myself to breakfast out for all that effort…for all of you, Brooke Thomsen for today. 🙂
